Inspiration from the Olympians

Inspiration from the Olympians

Over the Summer the eyes of the World were on London for the greatest Olympic Games ever.  For Great Britain the achievements were twofold - the best medal tally in history and the pride in hosting such a great event.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest success stories was that of Taekwondo. It started at the Opening ceremony when Sarah Stevenson represented the Olympic Athletes and read the Olympic oath. Four days of glorious Taekwondo competition took place at the Excel exhibition centre where GB claimed a gold and a bronze medal.

Sarah Stevenson featured in her 4th Olympic Games after making her debut in Sydney 2000 as a teenager and winning Bronze in Beijing in 2008. Sarah overcame overwhelming odds and personal tragedy to make it to London and though she missed out on a medal her example is one for all athletes to follow.

Sarah now runs an "Inspire" programme to help young athletes take their first step towards the higher levels of Taekwondo competition. The Sarah Stevenson Inspires Sessions are for young people to come together and have direct coaching from Olympic athletes and coaches.

Sarah was assisted by GB Team Coach Stephen Jennings and fellow GB Olympian Martin Stamper. The sessions included tactics and strategy and movement in Olympic Taekwondo. The participants really enjoyed the training but even more worthwhile was the chance to meet and train with their sporting heroes - to be inspired.

In celebration of Quest Taekwondo's 25th anniversary in 2013 Sarah Stevenson, Martin Stamper and Stephen Jennings will all be conducting seminars in Penistone throughout the year.

Sarah is also conducting an online fitness training regime called The Fitness Project in a bid to improve the nations health.
